The film has scored over its competitor, Viswasam owing to numbers from outside of Tamil Nadu whereas in Tamil Nadu, Viswasam leads Petta by a comfortable margin. The film will get the benefits of Pongal holidays from Monday onwards till Thursday at least so its a long four day holiday period and that should help the film put some big numbers in the first week at the box office.

Petta faced strong competition and limited screens in Andhra/Telangana due to the 3 Major Sankranthi releases in both the states. In Hindi, it faced competition from URI and the Accidental Prime Minister which had much better buzz and thus has the better prime time shows in multiplexes.

Owing to the competition and pre-festive period, the screens were divided between Petta and Viswasam and that has also divided the collections between both the films. The word of mouth of both the films is on the positive side and it remains to be seen the how far both the films grow and take advantage of the holiday period at the  box office.

The Break Up of Collections for the first four days is as follows

  • Tamil Nadu - 35 crore Gross
  • Kerala - 4.5 crore Gross
  • Karnataka - 11 crore Gross
  • Telugu (AP/Telangana) - 5 crore Gross
