A Gentleman is a Disaster : 1st Weekend Day Wise Box Office Collection

A Gentleman is a Disaster : 1st Weekend Day Wise Box Office Collection. A Gentleman First Weekend Collections is 13 crore. It is a Poor Opening Weekend Business.

The film is a huge loss making proposition for the makers although with the digital boom, the losses will be reduced courtesy Amazon Prime. The film has scored a disastrous weekend at the box office and is not even close to the business it should have done for it to be in sync with its budget and genre. The first weekend is the 18th Highest Opening Weekend of 2017. The business is lower than a film like Ok Jaanu and even smaller films like  Naam Shabana, Commando 2 and Phillauri.

The film hasn’t been able to decent business even in high end multiplexes. The film was a complete no show at the box office. The film is a similar failure like Raabta and Rangoon. A Gentleman is looking at a lifetime of 20 crore range at the box office going by the current trends at the box office.

The audience had rejected the film even before the first show began on Friday. The awful marketing campaign diluted the film’s potential after a decent trailer. The over reliance on showcasing the romantic portions in the subsequent song promos gave the film a similar feel like Rom- Com, not a Spy Thriller which it actually was. The opening weekend business of the film is 10 % higher than Bareily Ki Barfi which released last week and was made at a budget which was around 1/3rd of A Gentleman’s budget.

This is back to back Disasters for Sidharth Malhotra with Baar Baar Dekho and now A Gentleman – Sundar Susheel Risky. His next film ‘Ittefaaq’ is also a niche film so the chances of hit scoring big at the box office are not high. His film with Neeraj Pandey titled ‘Aiyaary’ might salvage these failures.

A Career which looked extremely promising post the solid opening of Ek Villain is now in dire straits. Sidharth Malhotra has to understand the importance of commercial films and needs to work with directors who have Indian sensibilities otherwise he will end up doing disasters like Baar Baar Dekho and A Gentleman. He needs to take a leaf out of the book of Varun Dhawan, his Student of the Year co-star on how to survive in this extremely unpredictable movie business.
