Chef Box Office Collection – Another Huge Disaster for Saif Ali Khan. Chef 1st Weekend Collections of 4 crore is disastrous to say the least. It is beyond trade imagination.
Chef has done terrible business at the box office to say the least. The film hasn’t worked with this target audience as the numbers are even lower than films like Newton, Lipstick Under My Burkha etc which had been made on around half the budget of Chef.
Chef adds on to the Huge Disaster list of 2017 as well as another disaster for Saif Ali Khan. In the last 3-4 years, Saif Ali Khan had seen disasters like Bullet Raja, Happy Ending, Rangoon and now Chef. His biggest grosser Phantom is also a Box Office failure.
The film will not even cross 7.5-8 crore lifetime figure which just sums up the interest level of the film among the audience as well as the reception among the target audience. The film has performed disastrously from the first show itself and it is painful to see the performance of a film in these troubled times.
Chef will not even remotely close to recovering its promotion expense let alone the cost of production. The film has performed worse than a long delayed film like Bank Chor. The makers will be able to recover some money from digital and satellite rights but even that won’t stop the film from becoming a disaster.
A film like Chef should have been a direct release on Streaming Platforms like Amazon Prime or Netflix. It would have definitely save lot of money for the producers who spent it to market and release the film. The chances of the film working on streaming platforms would have been much better then.
The film is definitely one of the biggest disasters of 2017. So that’s two in two for Saif Ali Khan this year. He might have another release Kalakandi this year although that is stuck with Censor Issues. Post the disastrous performance of Chef, we doubt if producers will be willing it release it this year or not.
