Pad Man 1st Weekend Box Office Collections is 40 crore. Padman First Weekend Collection is the Second Highest Opening Weekend Business of 2018 after Padmaavat. Padmaavat has scored double of what Padman has scored in its first weekend at the box office.
In its first weekend, the film has scored decently in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore etc. Delhi – NCR and East Punjab have been above average and they could have done better at the box office. Mass belts like Gujarat, UP, Rajasthan, CP-Berar, CI, Bihar etc have remained average at best although that was expected to certain extent going by the taboo theme of the film.
Considering other Akshay Kumar starrers, the weekend of Padman is lower than all his recent releases in the last couple of years but the subject here is more niche than his other recent releases at the box office. The weekend numbers are significantly lower than Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2, Rustom, Housefull 3 and Airlift.
The film now needs strong trending in the weekdays to have a fighting chance at the box office. The weekend is decent but should have been much better given the release size and the promotional blitzkrieg done by the team over the last couple of months. The initial word of mouth and reviews are also quite good for the film.
The 100 crore figure now depends on the second Friday as the holidays will help the film to a certain extent during the first week. The first week has to go near the 70 crore mark to have a chance at hitting the 100 crore mark at the box office. It will be interesting to how much boost does Mahashivratri and Valentines Day give to this film at the ticket window. The support has to come more from female audiences.
The solo release for Padman now looks like a planned strategical move as the film would have barely survived the Padmaavat onslaught at the ticket window couple of weeks back. A film like Padmaavat has seen a better trend in its third weekend compared to what Padman has done in its first weekend.
